Alaska Heli Hiking

In Partnership with Alpine Air, we offer Heli access guided hikes and climbs. Operating under permit, Chugach National Forest.

While we are limited by land management as to where we can land, we have designed a variety of heli-hiking and climbing options which take us quickly and efficiently to some amazing and unique locations. Several trips we can provide, have walk-out or Rail-out options to round out your day and help keep the cost reasonable.

We work with the fabulous folks at Alpine Air in Girdwood. Their Robinson R44 Helicopters have an excellent safety record, are affordable, quiet and fuel efficient. We use their A-Star for larger groups or bigger mountain trips. Landing on the glacier, or at Glaciers' edge, we gear-up with helmets and crampons. After more safety lessons and crampon practice, we explore the glacier ice itself and typically have several hours to discover amazing Ice features (blue ice, crevasses, ice caves, moulins, etc) with skilled and experienced guides.

Consider adding an Ice climbing option to learn some vertical skills.

Spencer Heli-Rail Rock-Star Trip:

Our most popular option is the “Heli-Rail Rock-Star trip”. From Girdwood, we helicopter 20 minutes to the Spencer glacier, hike with crampons past fins of blue ice, crevasses and pools of water, then walk 3 miles of graveled trails to catch the luxurious Alaska Railroad back to Girdwood at 8pm. This trip can also be done as a ½ day, taking the 4pm Glacier Discovery Train out.
