HELICOPTER HIKING & GLACIER LANDING WALKS
In partnership with Alpine Air Alaska, we provide Helicopter access guided glacier hikes and ice climbs. The Robinson R44 Helicopters have an excellent safety record, are affordable, quiet and fuel efficient. We use the A-Star and R66 for larger groups or bigger mountain trips. Your glacier guide will meet your group up on the ice at our basecamp.
From the magnificent Hotel Alyeska in Girdwood, we shuttle a short distance to Portage and our private Heli Pad for a hot-load onto the ship. A very memorable and scenic flight of about 10 minutes gets us to several glacier options. After landing below the firn line (snow melt line) on the glacier, we gear-up with helmets, harness and crampons. Once the helicopter leaves, and after a safety talk and crampon practice with your skilled and experienced guide, we explore the glacier ice itself. We typically schedule about 2 hours to discover amazing Ice features like: blue ice, crevasses, caves, rushing surface rivers, tubes, moulins, etc.
We operate outside of the Chugach National Forest or land within NFS permitted areas.
